Processes to Reduce Nurses Burnout

The problem that needs to be overcome in the daily practice of nurses is psychological burnout that occurs due to acute stress and loss of motivation. Burnout is a common phenomenon, especially in the daily activities of nurses; this ailment expresses itself in emotional exhaustion, overstrain, and frustration. All these internal ailments and conflicts underestimate work productivity and efficiency, which lowers the quality of the health care service.

Motivation for work and general involvement in nursing practice must come from a regained sense of control over one’s actions. Having a feeling of purpose and a sense of self-determination is essential in the workplace. Accordingly, the main change that needs to be brought to the nursing team to eliminate the problem of burnout should be special practices and implementations to increase motivation and reduce emotional distress.

The article selected for the example hypothesizes that psychological empowerment has a neutralizing effect on the problem of burnout and its symptoms, such as depersonalization and emotional exhaustion. Psychological empowerment is a specific practice that is proposed for experimental use within a selected focus group (Permarupan, 2019). In general, positive self-esteem improves performance and the search for new opportunities in the workplace, but that is only one of the connections the article provides. The scholars also hypothesize that there is a link between burnout symptoms and the age, gender, and marital status of nurses, which determines their internal attitude to work processes.

The task of the study was to test these hypotheses statistically at the experimental level. The methodological approach involved two tests conducted on a sample of 432 participants, all nurses of different genders. The fact that the survey was conducted in Malaysia complicated the course of the experiment due to communication problems. All of them were participants in an experimental invasion to test the effectiveness of psychological empowerment.

The research uses a theoretical model from the social sciences, analyzing information received through questionnaires. PLS-SEM was used to analyze the data using the Multi-Group analysis function to distribute the information obtained among different subgroups of respondents. As a result of the survey, it was established that the possibilities of empowerment in the fight against burnout are significant. The results demonstrate a statistically negative value (p = 0) for intrusions on the taken measures of personal dissatisfaction and emotional exhaustion. However, these results indicate the possibility of a positive outcome for the psychological well-being of nurses.

A similar practice to increase motivation should be applied in the current workplace environment. As follows from the sample study, psychological empowerment is a potentially useful practice that can be recommended for experimental application within the selected focus group. In this case, the population should be nurses from all gendered ages and social categories. The above research proves that although the causes of burnout may be different, in general, psychological empowerment has a positive effect without exception. The intervention to combat the problem, therefore, consists of the application of psychological empowerment tactics through the development of leadership qualities, and independent or collective decision-making. In comparison with the current situation, aspects of both independence and collaboration between employees will be emphasized – higher authorities will encourage independent initiatives to a greater extent.

Our study uses an evidence-based model informed by the Plan-Do-Study-Act principle. The first stage includes the preparation of theoretical literature and the assembly of a similar statistical apparatus. The second stage includes the application of stimulating psychological practices to the entire selected range of nurses in the current workplace, with the recording and categorization of data about them. The third stage is the study of information, which prompts the fourth stage – the subsequent introduction of empowerment practices into the ongoing activities of this institution.

As a result of the such evidence-based intervention, the motivation, self-determination, and internal sufficiency of medical workers should increase. Using the PICO model, it is demonstrated that practices to increase motivation and reduce the consequences of burnout can be applied in a relevant medical environment. This practice, with proper recording and interpretation of results, can qualitatively transform the field of nursing, bringing to it a greater sense of satisfaction and motivation.
