Public Policy Recommendations to Curb Recidivism
Admittedly, agriculture is one of the essential sectors of the world economy. Unfortunately, this is also the arena for numerous law violations which can be associated with white-collar crimes. Effective public policies should decrease the number of violation cases. First, it is necessary to launch a public policy that is aimed at decreasing financial violation cases. These have become essential due to the problem of famine and overpopulation. There are enough products produced to feed everyone on the planet, but these resources are distributed in a way that leads to costs rises and a lack of food.
Agricultural companies try to make money producing products for forage and various industries (biofuel, for example). Of course, public policies should control the balance in agriculture. It is necessary to encourage companies to produce food and launch bans on growing plants for industrial purposes. Apart from this, it is necessary to launch monetary punishment for those who use fields to produce biofuel, for example. In this case, a business will have no financial interest in growing such cultures and, eventually, will start growing corns. As a result, the food prices will be reasonable, and the entire problem of the feminine will be solved (at least partially).
On the other hand, public policy should deal with fairness in leading this business. There is not enough attention to genetically engineered food in mass media. For instance, only several big cases were considered by the media which is inappropriate since people should be aware of the risks they may face. Of course, such silence is also sometimes beneficial for corporate violators. Genetically engineered products bring huge profits, so the disadvantages of such products often remain in the shadow. Thus, it is necessary to make companies reveal the origin of their products. It can be effective to increase dramatically penalties for such information withheld. It can be useful to launch boycotts against some products or companies. Of course, such campaigns should involve many people (ideally, the entire population of an area, a country, or the entire world).
