The Use of U.S. Military Power Since the End of the Cold War

There can be no doubts as to the fact that, after the end of Cold War, the America’s military power played a crucial role in shaping up world’s socio-political realities. In fact, after the collapse of Soviet Union, majority of political observers had rightly predicted that that absence of counter-balancing military power (Soviet Army) would eventually cause Americans to begin misusing their military might on international arena. This was exactly what happened – while exploiting the official excuse of “protection of democracy”, Clinton’s and Bush’s administrations had embarked on the course of aggression against sovereign nations in Europe and Middle East.

In 1999, American planes bombed Yugoslavia, simply because Serbs strived to protect the national integrity of their country. In 2003, America attacked Iraq, because of allegations of this country possessing the stockpiles of “weapons of mass destruction”, which later proved to be a myth. By doing it, America did not simply turn many of its traditional friends into the enemies, but has also created a legal precedent for the violation of independent countries’ sovereignty to take place in the future, as something absolutely normal. In its turn, this resulted in the intensity of international tensions being significantly increased.

Given the fact that more and more Americans are now being preoccupied with “celebration of diversity”, thus weakening country from within, as it was the case in Roman Empire, before it was being sacked by barbarians, it comes as no surprise that when America was called to protect the democracy for real, at the time when Russia invaded Georgia, it has shown itself absolutely powerless to even make Russians to consider its pleas. Nowadays, U.S. solemnly relies on its military’s technological superiority, within context of pursuing its geopolitical agenda. Such situation, however, will not last forever, because the pace of scientific progress in America has been considerably slowed down (America now have to import scientists and technicians from abroad, thanks to the policy of “affirmative action”), and because military technology has a tendency to spread among hostile barbarians very fast.
